EARTH’S PRECIOUS “GEMS”
INVITE CRYSTALS AND GEMS INTO YOUR LIFE.
A BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT CRYSTALS
Crystals have been valued and appreciated for their beauty since they were first discovered. Crystals will continue to amaze us with their good looks, however crystals are much more than a pretty face.
Having grown in the earth’s crust for thousands (sometimes millions) of years, crystals have accumulated abundant energy, wisdom (yes, wisdom), powerful strength and have developed their own personality.
Even though crystals have been around a long time, they have recently gained more recognition and acceptance, especially with regard to their health and healing ablities. Today, we are beginning to understand how much we can benefit and heal ourselves with “life’s precious gems.” The notion that crystals were only appreciated and owned by royalty or that only spiritual healers, shamans and fortune tellers use them is ancient history.
As we mentioned, every crystal has its own powerful energy. The next time you want to feel a crystal’s energy, pick it up and close your eyes. Do you feel the vibrations (tingling sensation) pulsating through your hands? Some folks instantly feel the pulsations while others need a little more time. For this reason, many people believe that crystals continue to remain “alive” after they are mined or discovered. For more information on a stone’s vibration, please visit our crystals / numerology page.
The mere presence of crystals brings a sense of calm. We wear crystal jewelry, hold crystals in our hands, keep them in our pockets, bras, socks, etc. We display them in our homes, hang them in our cars or place them by our computers or under our pillow.
CHOOSING AND OWNING CRYSTALS…
There are no coincidences in life. The same is true for crystals. We can be attracted to a particular crystal (sometimes love at first sight) or an unsuspecting crystal can find its way to us. Either way, it happens for a reason. Crystals can grab our attention by subconsciously calling out to us. We are usually drawn to a crystal because we need the particular healing properties of that crystal. Often, those who are drawn to green crystals need healing in some form or another while those who resonate with blue crystals often need calming and soothing. We often see folks selecting pink or pinkish crystals not necessarily knowing why they are drawn to them. When we tell them that pink crystals represent our emotions and love of ourselves and others, they look at us in amazement. Most express that they are looking for a new love or that they need emotional healing or mending of a broken heart.
If you desire major changes in your life, wear or carry Moldavite! However, if you aren’t ready for those changes, Moldavite may cause too much turmoil and / or make you sick.
Crystals offer so much and ask so little. Crystals can help us with our physical (health), emotional (love) and spiritual (evolvement) aspects of life, as well as our finances and much more. Some crystals calm and ground us while others can boost our energy. Crystals can have a huge beneficial influence in our lives if we let them. Stones can bring happiness, inner peace, restful sleep, psychic awareness, intuition and even encourage communication with our angels. Certain crystals protect us from harm while others make us more empowered. Some gems bring love, abundance and harmony to our lives. Whatever you desire and wish to manifest, call on the power of crystals. As with all of God’s wonderful creations, please respect and handle crystals with love and appreciation. That’s all they ask.
ONE CLASSIFICATION OF MINERALS IS BY HARDNESS….
Every crystal has its own hardness which is determined by its resistance to scratch. The most widely used method of measuring a crystal’s hardness is the Moh’s Mineral Scale of Hardness. The Moh’s scale was devised by Friedrich Moh’s in 1812 and its range is from 1 – 10. The following is a list of 10 of the more common crystals and the number it is on the scale.
1 Talc
2 Gypsum
3 Calcite
4 Fluorite
5 Apatite
6 Feldspars
7 Quartz
8 Topaz
9 Corundum
10 Diamond
To give you a more clear idea of hardness, we have listed some non crystalline items for comparison…. Our fingernail is approximately 2.5, the old copper pennies are approximately 3.5, a glass window is 5.5 and a steel file is about 6.5.
Below are brief descriptions of what constitues a crystal, gemstone, mineral, rock, natural piece and tumble.
CRYSTALS:
A crystal is a solid material made up of atoms (or groups of atoms), ions and/or molecules which are naturally arranged in a regular repeated pattern. As is the case with many crystals, these patterns are exactly the same and consistent throughout the entire crystal. Many crystals are composed of quartz (silicon dioxide) along with tiny pieces of other minerals.
GEMSTONES:
Gemstones are minerals or natural materials composed of different chemicals. Generally, gemstones refer to rare and beautiful minerals that are durable enough to be cut and polished and made into jewelry. Gemstones can be semi precious or precious based on their rarity, appearance and method in which they were mined.
MINERALS:
A mineral is any substance which always has the same chemical composition. Minerals can contain combinations of elements, salts, sulfur and silicates. Their composition is usually crystalline in structure due to geological occurrences in the Earth.
ROCKS / STONES:
Rocks, AKA stones, are ANY composition of 2 or more minerals. Rocks DO NOT have any SPECIFIC chemical composition. They are formed from naturally occurring combinations of dense minerals or mineral like substances which have been exposed to mother nature for many years. Rocks are classified by their chemical composition, appearance and their natural growing and formation process.
Some folks prefer crystals in their raw (natural) form while others prefer crystals that have been polished (tumbled) or made into jewelry.
ROUGH / RAW / NATURAL STONES
Rough stones are stones that remain in their natural condition, never subjected to human workmanship. Some believe that raw stones have the greatest amount of healing power. Crystals placed directly on the body provides the greatest amount of healing. Of course, if the crystal is too rough, it may be more advisable to use polished stones.
TUMBLED / POLISHED STONES
Tumbled stones are stones that have been placed along with sand and water in a tumbling machine or drum. These stones are often tumbled for days making them smooth. Stones found around lakes, rivers and oceans can also become smooth from the water and sand hitting up against them over time. Polished and tumbled stones are perfect for placing directly on the body or held in the hand for crystal healing .
GEMSTONE JEWELRY
Before crystals and stones are made into jewelry, they must be cut, shaped and polished.
Some of the most elegant and magnificent jewelry is incorporated with gemstones. Jewelry doesn’t need to be made with precious stones (ie: ruby, sapphire, diamond) to be striking. Tiger eye, with its chatoyance, in a nice setting can make a gorgeous piece of jewelry. The way in which jewelry is made and the person making the jewelry can impose a positive or negative influence on the stone. Gemstone jewelry is not only beautiful to look at, it can be extremely functional. Wearing or donning a crystal pendant, ring, necklace, bracelet or anklet can reap positive benefits.
