Cleansing a new crystal…..
| It is a good idea to regularly cleanse your crystals. This process is also known as clearing. | |
| Crystals should be cleansed immediately after receiving them, after wearing them for a while and after they have been used for healings. You may also want to cleanse them if you feel their potency or effectiveness has diminished. Some people like to clear them after a negative person or someone they don’t like has touched them. You may want to cleanse them after anyone has touched them. | |
| Crystals take in, absorb and transmit all kinds of energy. Cleansing releases the negativity and bad vibrations that crystals pick up from people who may have handled them or negative / chaotic surroundings that they have been exposed to. If crystals become saturated with too much negativity, it may hamper their ability to work efficiently. | |
| There are numerous ways to cleanse your crystals and stones. |

| Salt water is used in many methods because salt water is very effective in discharging adverse energies. However, it may not be advisable to continually use sea or salty water for cleansing as it can eventually wear away and erode the crystals. |

| A natural water source is great for cleansing stones. Take your crystals to an ocean, sea, stream, lake, pond or river and let the water run over them for several minutes. Afterward, place them in the sun to re-charge. |
| Caution… Some stones should never be cleansed with water. For example…Selenite has a hardness of only 2, so prolonged exposure to water may cause selenite to dissolve. Copper is another mineral that should never come in contact with water,however it is not because of its hardness. |
| Soak the stones in a glass bowl with a mixture of table salt (3 tbsp) or sea salt and 1 cup of water. Completely cover the stones with water. Let the stones in the salt water for 12 – 24 hours. Rinse with filtered water and energize them in the sun for 2 – 7 days. | |
| Combine water and flower petals (or flower essences). Let the stones soak for 24 hours. Energize in the sun. | |
| Place the stone on top of a large crystal cluster for several days. Clusters radiate positive energy and absorb harmful energy. Clear quartz and carnelian cleanse other stones. | |
| Burn sage, cedar, incense or a candle. Position the stone through the smoke or pass it through the candle light. | |
| Visualize a white or gold light. Concentrate and focus on surrounding the crystal with this purifying light. Consciously state that all negativity will be turned into positive energy. | |
| Place the stone in direct sunlight for a day. Never put Amethyst or Fluorite in the direct sunlight as they will fade. | |
| Place the stone in moonlight overnight | |
| Bury the stone in the earth for a week. Make sure it is completely covered. Uncover and rinse with filtered water. | |
| Amethyst, Citrine, Kyanite and Azeztulite never need cleansing. Some stones cleanse other stones. | |

| Another way to clear a crystal is by placing the crystal on a clear quartz cluster overnight. |
| After cleansing the stones, dedication and programming is recommended. Positive programming focuses their energy and enables them to work more efficiently. |
| If you are right handed, hold the crystal in your left hand. Left handed people should hold the crystal in their right hand. You may prefer to hold the crystal in both hands. Visualize white light surrounding the crystal. If you find this difficult, hold it up to a light. |
