Aragonite
Hardness: 3.5 – 4
Aragonite is a calcium carbonate and is considered to be a cousin of Calcite. This calcium carbonate can center and ground our physical energies. Aragonite combats oversensitivity, anger and emotional stress. It encourages flexibility, discipline, reliability and tolerance. Aragonite teaches us patience and acceptance, especially with regard to our often overwhelming responsibilities. We can access our past life experiences and our forgotten “this life” events when we meditate with a reddish brown Aragonite cluster. Placing Aragonite on the chakras during meditation can clear chakra blockages. Aragonite is the perfect stone for today’s times as it encourages conservation and recycling. Place Aragonite under the pillow to protect against nightmares and sleepwalking.
Interesting Tidbits: Aragonite is named after the Aragon River in Spain and is found around that region. Aragonite changes to Calcite when it is heated to a temperature of 725oF or 400oC. The secretion of aragonite by many sea animals is what composes a large percentage of their outer shell. Aragonite is the primary mineral in pearls.
The iridescence and pearlescence of abalone shells is caused by tiny layers of Aragonite.
