Dolomite
Hardness: 3.5 – 4
Dolomite {CaMg(CO3)2}, a calcium magnesium carbonate mineral, is a cousin to calcite (CaCO3). Dolomite, AKA dolomitic limestone, grows all over the world usually near warm salty water as huge sheets that can be hundreds of feet thick.
Dolomite goes through a mineral change (similar to metamorphism) from the time it first begins to form to the time it is mined. Dolomite starts off as limestone with calcite and aragonite. Over time, the calcite and aragonite become dolomite.
This pearl- like mineral is named after a French mineralogist Deodat de Dolomieu. Dolomite is often white, gray or colorless and can be other colors as well, including a highly sought after lustrous pearly pink.
Dolomite can teach us moderation, balance and calmness. It can help prevent our energy from escaping our chakras. Dolomite is good for easing our anger, fears and sorrows. Dolomitic limestone can remove our EGO, negativity and all kinds of toxicities and dis-eases from our body.
Interesting Tidbits: Dolomite may not always be P R E T T Y, but it is pretty darn resourceful. : > ) A huge thank you to one of our wonderful customers who requested we carry it. (You know who you are!)
