The prefix “hema” (blood) was most likely given to hematite because hematite in its powdered form is red. This is due to its high content of iron which turns red when it oxidizes. Many years ago, when water was added to hematite powder to make a red pigment, it resembled blood.
Hematite is a powerful grounding and protective stone that can benefit us in many ways. Hematite builds self esteem, confidence, will power, reliability and survival instincts. This iron oxide can dissipate negative energy, preventing it from entering our aura.
