Stromatolites are among the oldest life form on Earth, having been found in rocks over 3 billion years.old. They actually represent our earliest record of life on Earth.

Most stromatolites are fossils, having once been the primary life form on the planet. Today, a small amount of stromatolites are still forming in Madagascar and a few other places.

The amphibian-like orbicular patterns on kambaba jasper are a result of the stromatolites expiring on the stone.
