Picture Jasper is easily identifiable by its picture-like designs resembling Mother Earth landscapes. The Earth connection plays a big part with picture jasper. This popular stone can connect us and bring us into harmony with the energies of Mother Earth.
Picture jasper is a petrified or silicated mud made from fine grained rock (clay) and small amounts of sodium or potassium. The mud dripped into gas pockets of very hot molten lava and eventually solidified. The combination of mineral oxides and organic material created its unique patterns. These varying patterns of tan, brown, black, ivory and blue contain hidden messages from our past.
Interesting Tidbits: Many varieites of picture jasper can be found in the western part of the U.S., especially in Idaho and Oregon.
