Selenite is a hydrated (containing water) calcium sulfate, a colorless or translucent crystalline form of gypsum that is found around hot springs. One way that soft gypsum forms is when limestone comes in contact with sulfuric acid.
Selenite is named after the Greek moon goddess “Selene,” because it has a pearl like luster and a moon like glow.
The very fine vibration of translucent selenite clears clutter from our mind, brings mental clarity and insight, provides flexibility to our nature and strength to our decisions. Selenite removes congested and stagnant energies and negativity from our body and encourages us to move forward with our lives. It is also great for communication, decisiveness and helping us break bad habits. Selenite discourages reserved and reluctant behavior.
Selenite is perfect for meditation and metaphysical work because it calms and instills peace. If you Google the Naica Cavern in Mexico, you will see huge pieces of gypsum.
Other crystalline forms of selenite are known as satin spar, desert rock, desert rose and gypsum flower.
Gypsum has natural thermal insulating properties. As a result, all forms can feel warm to the touch.
Selenite can dissolve if it is submerged in water for too long.
