Tektite means “to melt” in Greek.  There are differing theories regarding Tektite’s origin.  The most widely accepted theory is that Tektite is “extraterrestrial glass” which is formed by the fiery explosion when a meteorite or asteroid hits the Earth. The color range is usually an opaque green to black and the outside has a scarred appearance.

Tektite is considered a stone of good luck.  It encourages us to “collect” knowledge throughout our life’s journey. It helps us to remember our positive experiences and to forget our “not so good” experiences.

Interesting Tidbits:  Moldavite is a very dark green translucent Tektite. Another well known and metaphysically powerful tektite is Libyan Gold Tektite. The origin of Libyan Gold Tektite still remains a mystery as there is no evidence of an impact which would have created it.

Zhamanshinite is the rarest Tektite.  It is named after the crater in Kazakstan where it was first discovered.
