| Ammonites were sea animals that existed in the oceans millions of years ago. Even though their appearance resembles the nautilus (members of the cephalopod familythat have firm outer shells) or snail, their structure is actually more similar to octopuses and squid (members of the coleoid family) which have no skeletons.
